The description of nfo format expansion
The nfo file is a plain text file, which includes information about a pirated software group (warez). As a rule, it contains release notes and commonly includes data about the piracy group, responsible for distributing the warez. Usually it is included as part of the program and related files. First time the nfo extension was used in the late 1980s by a cracking group named The Humble Guys (THG).
Miscellaneously, NFO-files may contain ASCII art which identifies the piracy group. NFO readers, like NFOPad, may render the text characters as the intended graphic. For standard text editors, it’s generally best to view the text with a fixed width font.
