The description of dot format expansion
The dot file is a template file for the documents, being used in Microsoft Word 97-2003. dot templates are used, when the user wishes to create several doc documents with the same formatting, for instance, with the identical titles, headers and footers, fonts, indentations, etc. In the latest Microsoft Office builds the Open XML file format is applied, whereas the Word documents are stored in docx files, and the templates – in docm format appropriately.
Some templates are already included into Word, but the user has the possibility to create a template by himself. Normaldot is the default template, which is used for the creation of new documents in Microsoft Word and it is applied, when the user runs the text editor.
